Homeschooling vs. Distance Learning

Homeschooling:

  • Parents take full responsibility
  •  Customize the lessons for the child's interests
  • Parents must research and fulfill legal requirements
  • More 1 on 1 time with your child
  • Must provide your own resources

Distance Learning:

  • School provides curriculum and instructors
  • Structure and support from certified teachers
  • School district follows state and national standards
  • Interaction with other kids
  • Access to the school's resources and technology

Combining Fun and Learning

Some educational printables also incorporate games and puzzles, which can be a great way to make learning more engaging and fun. You can find math printables that involve solving puzzles or English printables that involve word games.

Record Keeping and Planning

Record keeping is important and may be required by your school system.

Attendance records are essential in homeschooling. Keeping track of attendance is necessary to comply with state laws and regulations. You can create your own attendance record or use a free printable attendance record.

Checklists are helpful for keeping track of your child's progress on specific tasks or skills. By keeping track of your child's progress, you can identify areas where they need more help and adjust your teaching accordingly.

A homeschool planner is a great organizing tool. Look for one with sections for attendance, lesson plans, grades, and other important information.

  • Thank you for setting the record straight! It bugged me that during the pandemic, so many Moms claimed to “homeschool” their children, when in reality all they did was park their kid in front of a computer. I have the highest respect for parents who not only take on the entire responsibility for the school material, but also manage to motivate their child to work day in, day out!

  • Even though Lia is not being homeschooled, we still give her extra work when she’s home. Lia loves learning and one subject she is not going to be learning in Kindergarten is Spanish. While she does speak some, she wants to learn more. I’ll definitely look into the Spanish printables.
